ADVICE

Richard, one of the station’s listeners from Prescott Valley asked that I share a little something with you. It involves the importance of reading terms and contracts before you sign them. He also wanted me to stress the importance of making sure that when you do look for a place to rent or a car to purchase, make sure that you can afford the payments.

I thought it might be nice to add some links here that can help you out. Mr. Landlord had a great calculator that can actually help you figure out with all expenses and income, how much rent you can really afford. Now typically this site is for a landlord to go to in order to see if a rental applicant can reasonably afford the rent, but hey, why not take advantage of it yourself?

LINK: Rental Calculator Mr. Landlord

I am also adding a rental calculator that is much simpler. This calculator comes from Vinebrook Properties. Put in your monthly income, and quickly see what you should be paying for rent. According to Vinebrook, housing costs are affordable if they take up no more than 30% of a family’s income. This information is from the US Office of Housing and Urban Development.

You may be wondering how you to get started in making up a budget. One simple thing that is pretty much always recommended is to start to track your income and expenses. Doing this can really keep you on target. Follow the link below to a wonderful article at Christian PF.

SHOPPING TIP

This came from our station manager. When shopping online always check out the clearance section. Sally picked up a great top at an online store for a wonderful price in the clearance department. Amazingly that same top was still for sale in the website at double the price. It pays to shop around the site. And don’t forget to sign up for Ebates which enables you to get cash back when you shop at their participating stores. Each store has different percentages back. One of my favorites was a magazine store magazines.com which gives 39% back to you! Most of my magazines I do get for free, BUT when I order my Writer’s Digest Magazine, I am all about Ebates and magazines.com.

Colson was 80.

Through Chuck’s humble service, God established two great ministries: Prison Fellowship, which serves and equips the Church to fulfill the Great Commission among prisoners and their families. And the Colson Center, which resources Christians to propose and live out a Christian worldview. It was Chuck’s vision that these two ministries would bring God’s peace and truth — His Shalom — to a broken world in desperate need.

Wednesday, May 16th at 7:00 am (Arizona time) Washington National Cathedral will host the memorial service for Chuck Colson. There will be a life webcast of this memorial. You can access this webcast by going to the Washington National Cathedral website’s homepage. Learn more at this link. The homepage of the Washington National Cathedral can be accessed at this link.

The C-5 Galaxy is the largest plane in our Air Force and my son, Crew Chief, for the C-5, wanted his mom to experience his plane.

Hi, I’m Sally Barton Station Manager for Radio Shine and these are my Reflections on Courage…

The tour included a climb to the very top – fully seven stories above the solid ground and I am absolutely, utterly terrified of heights! Looking at the impending climb from the tarmac, I offered, “Wow, it’s so wonderful to see it”

No, that wasn’t going to work, he said, “Come on mom, I’ll be right behind you.” Heart pounding, I prayed for God’s provision of courage and began the climb. At the top I took in the glorious feeling of victory over fear and the joy of my son’s appreciation.

We experience God’s blessing in a new way when, in faith, we trust God to leave our comfort zone, but don’t go it alone – you, me and Radio Shine, we’re experiencing life’s journey together.

Radio Shine Station Manager Sally Barton announced today that Daniel Young has been named the station’s Program Director. Young comes to Radio Shine from Northwestern College stations KNWI/KNWM where he has served as Program Director. He has worked in radio broadcasting for eight years, five of those years programming Christian radio for Northwestern Media.

“Daniel Young has experience as a strategically-driven programmer with a focus on serving the community by presenting the Gospel through radio,” said Barton. “He is highly qualified to lead the Radio Shine Programming Department, helping us achieve our vision to ‘Reflect Christ to Our Community.’ He was honored as one of 30 under 30 Up-and-Coming Broadcasters by Edison Research and was a finalist for Music Director of the Year by the Christian Music Broadcasters Association.”

“I am absolutely thrilled to join the Radio Shine family,” said Young. “Any time you have the opportunity to be a part of a station with such a long history of success, you grab it! Mike Medlin’s passion for serving the people of Prescott is contagious, and as we continue that tradition, I see a very bright future ahead. My family and I are ecstatic to live in this beautiful place with such warm and friendly people, and I am eager to get to know all of my new friends as we share life together on the air.”

Young joins the Radio Shine team at a significant time. After 11 years of dedicated, effective service, current Program Director Mike Medlin leaves Radio Shine to become a missionary for Emerge Missions serving in the Philippines. Medlin shares, “To serve the Lord in any capacity is such an incredible privilege. To have served this community with my friends at Radio Shine has been the blessing of a lifetime. Our family may be leaving Arizona, but we know Arizona will never leave us. We hold you and a lifetime of cherished memories close to our hearts as we step into a new season of service.”

Young and his wife, Debra, have a son, Joshua, and will make their home in Prescott Valley, Arizona. Dan can be reached at: Dan@RadioShine.org

Hi, I’m Sally Barton, Station Manager for Radio Shine and these are my Reflections on Words of Affirmation…

I even joined the school choir, though that certainly wasn’t my strength! Through it all my mom was there to tell me she loved me and my enthusiasm. Her assurance that I was the best that I could be encouraged me to enjoy life!

This Mother’s Day, seek out that person – your mom or a dear friend – who has encouraged you and celebrate the joy of a word of affirmation. And, before this week is out, pass on the blessing to a young person.

Gary Chapman, author of the 5 Love Languages shares, “Hearing the words, ‘I love you,’ are important – hearing the reasons behind that love sends your spirits skyward.” Find a young person who needs a word of affirmation and send their spirit soaring!

We’re sharing joy on life’s journey at RadioShine.org

Encourage, worship, inspire and pray – these are just a few of the experiences you and I share through the ministry of Radio Shine.

Hi, I’m Sally Barton, Station Manager for Radio Shine and these are my Reflections on Reflecting the Light…

Radio Shine volunteers are the hands and feet of this ministry. A volunteer shared, “Until I was here, at the station, I didn’t realize how deeply affected lives are by the ministry of Radio Shine.”

You and the Radio Shine team, together we are reflecting the light – a ministry message of eternal truth and hope in Jesus.

Romans 12: 10-13 “Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with God’s people who are in need.”

Together we joyfully celebrate our Lord’s provision in all things. Thank you for joining us on life’s journey at RadioShine.org

Did you know that on average, Americans throw out 25 percent of the food they bring home? This adds up to roughly $2,200 per year! That is crazy. I hate to say it, but I am definitely guilty. I do try very hard to incorporate leftovers into our meal planning. Still I miss the mark. This caused me to look for a good site to help me with the leftover question. I think you’re going to like it. Check out Love Food Hate Waste. This is a website from England so you will find things like haggis in it, but it is very, very cool and informative on serving sizes and recipes that you can make using your leftovers.
